Editors notes will appear in blue like this.
This is a different kind of genealogy than most people are used to seeing. This genealogy has been taken from the Book Of Bonawitz & Bonewitz, A Genealogy, arranged and printed by our honored ancestor Oby Bonewit. Cousin Oby published this book in 1970, with the help of several people. Gail Jones Breitbard of Miami laid the foundation by accumulating information on many family groups. Cornelius Koppenheffer of Emporium, PA gave generous assistance to Gail and to cousin Oby. Myrtle R. Hawken of Wooster, OH made extensive contributions of considerable value. Pastor Frederick Weiser of the Pennsylvania German society gave aid and encouragement. He is a descendant of Conrad Weiser, the man who sold land to Adam Bonnewitz in 1760.
It was hand typed and then probably printed at one of those quick print places. Just this sort of place is where I got my first taste of printing and publishing. However, I moved into the realm of computers and now publish on the world wide web. I have scanned every page of cousin Oby's book. Additions and current information (ca 2002) will be in green like this. Dates on effected pages will also be incremented.
I have tried to make navigation as easy as possible. It breaks things down much like cousin Oby did in his book, by chapter and by name. I hope to put a search into these pages so that you may find any family member, male or female quickly and easily.
In all cases the navigation panel on the left will remain so that you may switch from chapter to chapter. Inside of each chapter every page has, at the top and bottom, a "Prev" and "Next" link to take you forward or backward one page.
I'd like to have a bit of personal information about family members so that in the future our descendants will know a little more than when we lived and where. Beginning with the additions made 5/31/2002, links will be added to family members names who wish to fill out a questionnaire and have that information available to the generations to come. In the links, the entire name will be underlined like this;
Michael Edwin Bonewits, born May 25, 1945...
Click on the blue underlined link to see how I answered the questionnaire. The format and display of the questionaires are subject to change. While it may change it does give you an idea of where I'd like to go with this.
Also, I would appriciate it if you would look at your own part of the book and send me corrections, additions, and updates. These things will be updated as fast as time permits.
Michael E. Bonewits
