John Bonawitz, (4/17/1806- died between 1860 and 1870) 
a. Susannah Shily, August 7, 1827 (1811 per census - after 1870)
John's birth was recorded at Christ Lutheran Church at Heidelberg
in Berks County.  The marriage of John and Susannah was recorded at
Zion Lutheran Church at Harrisburg. They were living near the town
of Dauphin in 1840.  They were in Briar Creek Township, Columbia
County in 1850 and in Plymouth Township, Luzerne County in 1860.
He was a farmer and laborer. Three sons were in the Civil War.
Susannah was living with Jacob in 1870.

 1. Elizabeth Bonawitz, (1829 per census- was at home in 1850)
 2. Sara Bonawitz, (1830  per census- was at home in 1850)
 3. William Bonawitz, (1832-1906) Buried at Borie in family plot.
    m. Elizabeth A. Britton, at Emporium in 1865.
    William was in Co A of the 143rd Regt. They lived in Potter Co.
 4. A son, name not known.  Not in 1850 census.
 5. Jacob Bonawitz, (1836-1902)  Was a miner at West Nanticoke.
    m. Sarah Emeline Lauck, in 1865 at Wilkes-Barre.
    Jacob was wounded at Gettysburg while in Co A of the 143rd Regt.
 6. Daniel Bonawitz, (1838-1900)  Bur. in Hanover Green Cem, Hanover Twp,
    m. Helenah Jacoby, in 1866 at Bloomsburg. They lived at Kingston.
    Daniel was in Co D of the 53rd Regt. Infantry.
 7. Susan Bonawitz,  (1840-1915)
    m.                Ginnard,
 8. Mary Ann Bonawitz,  (1844 per census - was at home in 1860)
 9. Caroline Bonawitz,  (1847 per census - not in 1860 census)
10. Catharine Bonawitz,  (1848 per census - was at home in 1860)
ll. Julia Ann Bonawitz,  (1850 per census - not in 1860 census)
12. Franklin Bonawitz,  (1852- 
    m. Ellen Shaver, of Jackson Township. They lived in the Wilkes-Barre area.

    William, Jacob, Daniel and Prank left male lines of descent.
