Phoebe Ann Lower, in January, 1848 (7/2/1828-1/16/1898) Phoebe's maiden name was supplied by Gwen Jensen from a family Bible. William and Phoebe began their married life as farmers in Ogle County, Illinois, west of Chicago. They pulled up stakes in 1861 and traveled by covered wagon to Marshall County, Iowa where they settled about nine miles south west of Marshalltown. William's cousin George of chapter 11 became a neighbor. William and Phoebe are buried in La Moille Cemetery. They did not leave wills. 1. Elizabeth Bonawitz, (1848- m. Thomas Wickersham, in 1872 or 1873. They stayed in Marshall Co. 2. John Henry Bonawitz, (1849-1938) m. Anna Meech, in 1883 at Nevada, Iowa. They farmed at Marshalltown. 3. Albert Bonawitz, (1852- He was still at home in 1880. Ho further information. 4. Lucinda Bonawitz, (1853- m. Ebbie Chichester. Believed to have farmed, near Fairbury, Neb. 5. Joseph Clinton Bonawitz, (1855-1943) m. Sarah Lenora Whitney, in 1876. They lived near Fairbury. Their children lived generally in Nebraska and Montana. 6. Sarah Bonawitz, (1857- m. a Mulligan or Milligan, and lived at Topeka, Kansas. 7. William Bonawitz, (1859-1931) m. Eva Viola Lott, in 1889. They lived near Fairbury. 8. Amos Bonawitz, (1861-1947) m. Caroline Rosener. They farmed at Fairbury, Nebraska. 9. Riley Bonawitz, (1863- not in 1880 census) 10. Cyrus Bonawitz, (1866- No further information. 11. One other child is said to have died young. Most birth dates are from census records. John, Joseph, William and Amos are known to have left male lines of descent.
