Lawrence Bonewitz, (10/25/1816-3/9/1894)  Died N. Manchester, Ind. 
m. Elizabeth Seifried, Nov. 2, 1837 (1820-4/18/1898) 
They first farmed in Wayne County, Ohio where four children were 
born. They were farming in Huntington County, Indiana, in 1850 and 
were in Wabash County near North Manchester in 1860. Elizabeth was 
born in Pennsylvania according to census records. Her parents were 
Jacob Seifried (3/12/1782-1/17/1864) and his wife Barbara Hare 
(7/18/1785-7/25/1856). They were married April 29, 1806. Jacob's 
parents were Sebastian Seifried and wife Barbara Hostetler. 
Barbara's parents were Henry Hare and wife Barbara Witmer. 
   1. John S. Bonewitz, born 1840, 
      married Mary Jane Showalter, in 1861. 
      John was in the Civil War, then farmed near North Manchester.
      There was a daughter Minnie and a son Lawrence. 
   2. Jacob N. Bonewitz, born 1841, 
      married Susannah Lantz, in 1868.  He was a soldier in the Civil War, 
      then became a miller and farmer near North Manchester. Susannah died in 1880 and he 
      married Elfie Cummins, in 1883. There were three births from 
      each marriage. Jacob died at North Manchester.
   3. Mary Margaret Bonewitz, born February 12, 1843, 
      married George Fanning. They had a son 
      Marshall Panning. Marshall graduated from Harvard and did tutoring. 
      He married and lived mostly at Boston. He had no children.
   4. Josiah Cutter Bonawitz, born 1845, 
      married Harriet Heeter, in 1869. Josiah changed the name to Bonawitz. 
      Their children were born at North Manchester, then the family moved to 
      Cando, North Dakota after 1896.

   John, Jacob and Josiah all left male lines of descent.

   The information for this chapter was supplied primarily by 
   Blanche Bonawitz of Missoula, Montana, a grand daughter of 
   Josiah. Census records were consulted. The family of Jacob 
   was established by papers in his war record.
