Part 2 Chapter 19 Page 1 Jan 1969Jacob Bonewitz, (3/6/1816-11/10/1878) Buried at Monroe City, Indiana. m. 1st Elizabeth Helderman, Nov. 2, 1841 (1818-1851) " " Jacob changed the spelling of his name to Bonewits. He went to Knox County, Indiana in 1840, where his Aunt Julia Reifsnyder (R. Snyder) was living. He took with him the first wheat threshing machine in the state. He settled about ten miles east of Vincennes near what is now Monroe City. A man of parts, Jacob became a cooper and cabinet maker in addition to being a progressive farmer. The farm home he had when he died is still standing and is occupied by a descendant, Helen Welton. Jacob left a Bible. He survived four wives. Only three of his sons have male descendants living today. Children of Jacob and Elizabeth were; 1. Sarah Bonewits, (10/1/1842- m. George Goldman, Nov. 14, 1861. Children- Jacob, James, Ellen. They were farming in Knox County in 1870. 2. Elias Bonewits, (1/19/1844-8/31/1890) Buried at Monroe City. m. Sarah Gilmore, December 6, 1866. They were farming in Knox County in 1870. 3. James Bonewitz, (3/1/1845 m. Lovina Ellen Myers, They were farming in Knox County in 1870. 4. Lovina Bonewits, (9/23/1846 m. John F. Myers, There were seven children. They were farming in Knox County in 1870. 5. Ann Bonewits, (1/28/1848-4/2/1928) Died in Knox County. m. Robert Steven Johnson, Nov 10, 1866 (1843-1918) 11 children. They were farming in Knox County in 1870. Loversa is a daughter. 6. Richard Bonewitz, (1/27/1850-11/27/1936) Buried at Monroe City. m. Mary Ann Roberson, (1858-1947) " " " There were five children, including Carrie Bonewitz, born 1890. She did not marry. A son, Clarence Arthur Bonewitz (1883-1949). married Naomi Cain, but had no children. 7. Jacob Bonewits, (5/22/1851- died before 1936 at Carmen, Oklahoma. m. Ellen Clark, There were seven children. Only one son married. 1. Emory Augustus Bonewits, Died in 1961 at Denver. m. Maude _____, There was a daughter Ruth Bonewits.
